Summer Academy at Home: 13-16 years
Fun activities for children and young people to get creative at home.
Each year, over 100 young people take part in our Summer Academy and enjoy two weeks of drama together. We can’t all be in the same building this year so we thought we would bring some of the fun to you at home! This alternative digital programme will offer a series of creative activities exploring themes around past Citizens productions.
What’s involved?
A series of activity videos will be made available over the course of two weeks from 13 – 24 July. These are presented by our Citizens Learning team and are inspired by the themes of a past production. There will also be a live event on Friday 17 and Friday 24 July bringing everyone together to share their work and talk about what they have enjoyed doing.
The tasks for the 13-16 years group will explore the themes of The Monster In The Hall. This funny and energetic play will be the starting point for your own writing and devising, as our Learning team explain how to develop characters, come up with scene ideas and write comic moments. There’ll also be live Q&A sessions with theatre professionals and a chance to share your work.
There will be lots of photographs, video clips, design drawings and other inspirational material shared about each show alongside the activity videos. Most of the tasks will result in a finished item such as a drawing, a photograph, a short script or an acted scene and participants will be invited to share their creations if they would like to.
We would love everyone to take part in all activities, but you can also dip in and out as you like!
What will I need?
You will need a mobile phone, tablet or computer and an internet connection to watch the activity videos on the Citizens Theatre YouTube channel.
Live events will require an application called Zoom.
Younger age groups will need an adult to support participants to complete activities.
All age groups will require a parent or carer to be in the room at the start of live events to give consent to taking part.
How do I sign up?
Just click the book now button! There are a limited number of places for each age range so advance booking is recommended. Your booking will require an email address. We will use that email address to get in touch before the start date with more information, a consent form, and instructions on how to access the activity videos. If you have any questions before booking, please email Angela Smith.
We also have activities for other age groups, find out about 6-8s and 9-12s.
