Fly With Me
Presented by Good Chance Theatre with the Citizens Theatre
Fly With Me is a multi-city kite-flying festival, remembering one year on since the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban. Join us at Glasgow Green for a community event that invites everyone to come together to remember and celebrate Afghan culture through the simple joy of kite-flying.
With more than 20 cities and towns across the UK and Europe taking part, the Citizens Theatre invites Glaswegians to join this moment of solidarity that calls for equal and fair treatment of all people seeking safety and sends a message to the world to Remember Afghanistan.
Venue
This event will take place at Glasgow Green. It will be located behind the People’s Palace, between St Andrews Suspension bridge and the Drying Green. Kite-Flying event
1.30pm - 3.30pm
No booking is required, just turn up and enjoy the event! Suitable for all ages. We will have some kites available for you to have a go with or you can bring your own. You can also make your own Afghan kite at home. Kites will take to the skies just before 2pm.
Create your own Afghan kite at home
Learn how to make an authentic Afghan kite, watch a tutorial with master kite-maker Sanjar Qiam. You’ll need a few wooden skewers, some tissue paper and string.
Good Chance’s kite-flying pack is available to download for free or you can order a free hardcopy kite-flying pack of materials and instructions.
Kite-Making workshop
12pm - 1.30pm
We're hosting an outdoor workshop to create your own Afghan kite. If you’d like to attend, you can book your place online. Places for this workshop are free but limited and must be booked in advance. Places are limited to 4 per booking.
