NEW THEATRE COMPANY FOR 18 to 26 YEAR OLDS
The Citizens Theatre is creating an exciting and innovative theatre company for care-experienced young adults aged 18-26 that will offer a positive, supportive and empowering creative space where they can explore and learn about all aspects of a professional theatre, develop their creative talents, and tell the stories that are important to them.
We are looking for 15 theatre-makers of the future with energy, commitment, focus and passion who want to perform.
The project culminates in a new play written by an experienced playwright working closely with the ensemble that will have its world premiere in Glasgow at Tramway in Autumn 2019.
We will also equip our new ensemble of actors to lead workshops in community settings and share their new drama skills with other groups.
The programme of work aims to improve confidence and self-esteem, increase access to employment, education and training opportunities within the creative industries, and encourage participation in the social, economic and cultural life of the city.
WANT TO TAKE PART?
We're holding a taster session on Wednesday 14 November at the Citizens Theatre (119 Gorbals Street Glasgow) from
origin of the project
The project was developed in close partnership with CELSIS (the Centre for Excellence for Looked After Children in Scotland). Our new theatre company is funded by Life Changes Trust until September 2019. We hope to secure funding for the company to continue long into the future.
We define care experience as having being cared for as a child or young person in kinship care (by friends or family), foster care, residential care or secure care for any period of time (e.g. it might have been a few months or a number of years).
