Little Amal at COP26 – We Are Mighty

A National Theatre of Scotland, Citizens Theatre and Perth Theatre collaboration in association with Good Chance Theatre and The Walk

Little Amal, a 3.5m puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee, will visit Glasgow for the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) from 9 to 11 November. Her journey over 8000km from the Syrian border to Manchester, shone a light on the millions of displaced children who have made similar journeys in search of refuge.

Using Little Amal’s visit as inspiration, artists and community facilitators have been working in residence with six schools across Glasgow and Perthshire. Using a range of artforms, including creative writing, and visual art, the workshops have explored issues such as environmental justice, migrant justice, land justice, as well as youth and creative activism.

In the weeks leading up to COP26, the pupils have been following Little Amal’s journey and preparing for this event responding to the cause of young people across the world who will experience forced migration due to the climate emergency.

The project will culminate at an event on Wednesday 10 November as the pupils accompany Little Amal down by the Clyde. You can experience the event online through National Theatre of Scotland’s Facebook. Find out more about the event here.
