Citizens Theatre Enjoys Successful Fringe Run Media Release

MEDIA RELEASE for immediate use.

The Citizens Theatre concluded a successful run of its acclaimed production of The Sound of My Voice at the Edinburgh Fringe festival this week, the Company’s first production at the festival in over ten years.  The show, based on the novel of the same name by Ron Butlin, enjoyed busy houses throughout the run with final audience figures well in excess of target.

Cast members Billy Mack and Michele Gallagher were both honored with awards for their performances.  Billy received Best Actor in The Stage Awards for Acting Excellence for his portrayal of Morris Magellan, whilst Michele received The Herald’s Little Devil, awarded to those demonstrating the spirit of that old adage ‘the show must go on’.  Michele stepped into the role only six days before the first performance, after the original actress had to withdraw.

During the run we were delighted to receive 5 star reviews from Three Weeks, Onstage Scotland and the British Theatre Guide as well as 4 star reviews from Edinburgh Guide, AlltheFestivals, Fest and The List.  This is in addition to a clutch of 4 star reviews received during the show’s run at the Citizens Theatre last May.
The Sound of My Voice was part of the Made In Scotland showcase supported by the Scottish Government’s Edinburgh Festivals Expo Fund, which is a partnership between the Fringe, the Federation of Scottish Theatre and the Scottish Arts Council.
