Redevelopment: Supporting our community

We are embedding a deeper sense of community in the building, in the local area and across Glasgow.

To ensure that the Citizens Theatre responds to the world around it, it needs a range of welcoming and accessible spaces. These new spaces allow us to hold classes, workshops and projects where participants can share work and perform together.

New spaces will be adaptable and accessible, meaning more people can engage in a wider range of experiences. It will enable engagement with more professional and non-professional theatre makers, making high-quality performances with, for and by our local communities.

We will provide cultural, community and social spaces that will support, inspire and empower the community in the local area. The aim is to create a greater sense of vibrancy in the building, placing us as a hub at the heart of our Gorbals community. The improved spaces will support ways of working that are intergenerational, multi-lingual, intercultural and inclusive.
