Frequently Asked Questions
WHERE IS THE THEATRE?
The Citizens Theatre will be closed from July 2018 until Autumn 2020 as we undertake a multimillion pound redevelopment to create a Citizens Theatre we can all be proud of. Find out more about our redevelopment project here.
During this time we will be presenting shows at Tramway and our learning programme will be delivered at Scotland Street School Museum.
I AM AN ACTOR AND WOULD LIKE TO WORK WITH YOU. WHEN ARE YOUR AUDITIONS?
If you are a professional actor, please send a CV and recent photograph to the Citizens Theatre, 119 Gorbals Street, Glasgow, G5 9DS, marked “Casting”, or email Jackie Muir, Production Administrator. Your information will be held on file for future castings and auditions. Actors deemed suitable for a role may be asked to come in for an audition.
Please note that we do not send a personal response to each CV received.
DO YOU HAVE ANY JOB VACANCIES?
All job vacancies will be advertised here on our website. The theatre goes through a dark period each summer prior to autumn season launch and as such there is limited work available during this period. Please address all enquiries for work in specific departments to the staff listed below:
Box Office: Denise Differ, Box Office Manager
Drama Worker/Education: Martin Travers, Producer (Citizens Learning)
Front of House: Lesley Davidson, Head of Operations
Production: Graham Sutherland, Head of Production
Casting & Contracts: Jackie Muir, Production Administrator

Please note that we may not be able to personally acknowledge receipt of every CV.

Yes. Proof of eligibility must be presented when collecting tickets. For full information on costs, see our Pricing page.
WHEN CAN I BUY TICKETS?
You can book online 24hrs.
Our Box Office is currently based out of Scotland Street School Museum, and is open Monday - Friday 9.30am - 5.30pm.
CAN I BUY CITIZENS THEATRE GIFT VOUCHERS?
We sell gift vouchers, which are available in denominations of £1, 5, 10, and 20. They can be redeemed against tickets for any of our productions. Please note that we are unable to accept “Theatre Tokens”. Gift Vouchers are bought directly through our box office either in person or by phone (0141 429 0022) and can be posted out to you.
CAN I USE MY ILA ACCOUNT TO PAY FOR CLASSES AT THE THEATRE?
I’m afraid we are not a registered ILA Scotland provider, and as such your ILA cannot be used to pay for our classes. ILA Scotland provide a list of all registered providers. To determine if you are eligible for a concession price, please contact Box Office when appropriate.
I AM A PROMOTER AND WOULD LIKE TO BOOK CITIZENS WORK, WHERE CAN I FIND OUT ABOUT YOUR TOURING THEATRE?
Please address all enquiries to Judith Kilvington, Executive Director
I HAVE WRITTEN A PLAY AND WOULD LIKE YOU TO PRODUCE IT. TO WHOM SHOULD I SEND THIS?
Unfortunately, our Artistic Director does not have enough time to read all unsolicited scripts and due to the high volume of enquiries we receive, we cannot guarantee a personal response.
If you are based in Scotland or are Scottish and based elsewhere, your play can also be sent to the National Script Reading Service. You will receive written feedback to help with the development of your script. This service is run by Playwrights’ Studio, Scotland. Please visit Playwrights’ Studio’s website for full eligibility criteria and more information or email them.
I WOULD LIKE TO GET INVOLVED AND GIVE ACTING A GO. WHAT CAN YOU OFFER?
Citizens Learning run Weekly Drama Classes during school term-time for children and young people. These classes are for 4-18 year olds. They also run Friday Club classes for people with learning disabilities and Nightschool adult acting classes for everyone over 22 years.
These classes are taking place at Scotland Street School Museum until 2020.
I AM LOOKING FOR A WORKSHOP FOR MY STUDENTS/YOUTH GROUP/CLUB. WHAT CAN YOU OFFER?
Citizens Learning offer a wide range of workshops for children and young people. If you would like to discuss a current participatory project or the creation of a new workshop or workshop programme, please contact Martin Travers, Producer (Citizens Learning): email Martin Travers, or phone 0141 418 6243.
CAN YOU GIVE ME INFO ABOUT ARCHIVE PRODUCTIONS AT THE THEATRE?
Our record of past Citizens productions extends back to 1969. All material related to productions prior to this are now held by the Scottish Theatre Archive (part of their Special Collections department) at the University of Glasgow. Most of TAG’s archive is also held here.
I’M NOT SURE WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN I GET TO THE THEATRE. CAN YOU HELP?
You can familiarise yourself with the space at Tramway on our Access information page, or alternatively call the Box Office on 0141 429 0022 who will be happy to answer any further queries.
