Mark Steel’s In Town

Visiting Company

Following his highly acclaimed, Sony Award winning and Writers Guild Award winning Radio 4 comedy show Mark Steel’s In Town, and the publication of a book of the same title, writer and stand-up comedian Mark Steel is back on the road - part of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival.

Bringing an element of Mark Steel’s In Town to each live performance, means Mark will write material shedding light on the quirkiness and interesting aspects of every town and city he visits, allowing each show to be unique - something local audiences up and down the country will devour and enjoy. Mark is committed to performing a routine about the history of every town he’ll perform in. However, he may regret making this promise!
As well as Mark Steel’s In Town, Mark has presented the BAFTA nominated Mark Steel Lectures for BBC2, is a regular on BBC One’s Have I Got News For You and Radio 4’s Newsquiz. He’s written several, acclaimed books, including: Reasons To Be Cheerful and What’s Going On and he writes a weekly column for The Independent.

Hi Jo, We have wheelchair spaces at either end of row D and at the back of the stalls. Our auditorium is not that deep, so the seats at the back would have a better view and still not be too far away. I have spoken to Box Office and believe you have booked. Let me know if you need any more information.

Absolutely loved the production of "Marilyn" which I saw last night. All the perfomances were superb and balanced each other brilliantly. To see a play with only three actors where each one is perfection was a priviledge. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it all day. Costumes and set were excellent too. Thanks a million to all involved.

Hi there We are really keen to come to see the Charlie and Lola Show. We are a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 children, with one of our chidren in a wheelchair. Just wanted to check if there is a concession for her and what days are the wheelchair spaces near the front available as she needs to be quite near to see? Many thanks Jo Boyce

Great show - leaves you thinking. Topical for todays society. All three actresses were phenomenal - as were the costumes!

I haven't been to the Citizens since I could run for a bus and this kind of theatre usually leaves me squirming & frigid, but for once, the word of mouth is true; this is very well written & researched, intelligently directed and extremely well played; there's no margin for error in a three-person play, and caricature would have been a disaster; instead, we get a brilliantly authentic character study; trust the judgement of the self-styled 'Meanest Man in the World' it's worth seeing the magic before it goes to Edinburgh.

I saw Marilyn on last Saturday night and absolutely loved it. An amazing set and wonderful acting by the three women. One of the best things I have seen in a long time.

Absolutely great show. Takes a new angle, a snapshot of Marilyn's life that is not so familiar and that makes it all the more fascinating. The three actors are fantastic. Loved the script, the acting, the singing, the set, the costumes, the direction, the lighting, the sound, the incorporated visual clips. It's an especially great inspiration to other females in the business and I liked all the little digs in the script about the lack of work for females, especially older ones. Very relevant to today's entertainment industry STILL!

One of my favorite plays...seen it many times......this performance didn't disappoint.....Well done to all the cast for being all the things they are meant to be. Menacing, troubled, naive, simple and scary!.....It was also really nice to have a chat with the cast afterwards. Thanks to them for taking the time to talk to my mum...(for almost an hour!)...not many people take the time to have a wee chat and take an interest in the over 75's. I have seen it twice this week and tried to get a couple of tickets for Saturday night but it's sold out!!....Well done for your sell out and enjoy your champagne....... Helen, Anna & Lesley

Hi Heather, I’m the Marketing Manager at the National Theatre of Scotland and I wanted to let you know that I’ve passed your comment on to Robert, but also to respond on behalf of the Company to your comment. The reason that we aren’t using stagetext for Girl X is that as part of the design and performance of the show every line of dialogue will be projected as surtitles. Therefore, I’m delighted to be able to say that the show will be fully accessible for you. I’ll be in touch with marketing colleagues at the Traverse and Citizens today to ask if that information can go up on their respective websites and we’ve let the box office staff at both venues know too. I hope that’s helpful and that you will be able to join us for one of the Girl X performances All best wishes Gareth

Hi Robert, Pam invited me to come along with her to this but I see you don't have stage text for it. You've got audio description and BSL, but not stagetext. Any particular reason? i can't come without. Thanks, Heather

Hi Amanda, that's a great question. A preview performance is essentially a test run. We have previews at the start of the run to allow the cast to get used to performing in front of an audience. The show may not always be as polished as a later performance which is why we charge just £5. To book online just click Book Now and select the performances indicated with a (P), or call 0141 429 0022. I hope that helps.
