Mark Steel’s In Town

Visiting Company

Following his highly acclaimed, Sony Award winning and Writers Guild Award winning Radio 4 comedy show Mark Steel’s In Town, and the publication of a book of the same title, writer and stand-up comedian Mark Steel is back on the road - part of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival.

Bringing an element of Mark Steel’s In Town to each live performance, means Mark will write material shedding light on the quirkiness and interesting aspects of every town and city he visits, allowing each show to be unique - something local audiences up and down the country will devour and enjoy. Mark is committed to performing a routine about the history of every town he’ll perform in. However, he may regret making this promise!
As well as Mark Steel’s In Town, Mark has presented the BAFTA nominated Mark Steel Lectures for BBC2, is a regular on BBC One’s Have I Got News For You and Radio 4’s Newsquiz. He’s written several, acclaimed books, including: Reasons To Be Cheerful and What’s Going On and he writes a weekly column for The Independent.

Hello, was browsing your site whan I came across this fab idea! I'm loving the notion of a comunity based performance based on the Glasgow Fair and wondered if I can help at all? I'm the Assistnat Mangaer for Information and Culture in sunny North Ayrshire which means I look after Libraries, Museums and Art Centres ( amoungst many other things! )and the traditional Doon The Watter Towns of Largs, Saltcoats and Stevenston are all in our area! WE have a latrge collection of nostalgic photos, postcards etc etc of the area and Id be keen to see if we could tie up with your production. Whether through the items we have, connecting you with some of the local people who made their living from the summer trade, connecting with the local community based Fair Festival ( The Queen of the Sea ) or possibly offering a venue to perform the show here in Ayrshire I would really like to be involved in some way that might benefit your production. Please please get in touch with your thoughts. Lesley

Hi June, I don't think so. I believe Stirling and Inverness may be the only other Scottish venues. If you click on Watershed Productions (above) their website should have full tour details.

I saw this production this evening. It was a brilliant show. It was funny, provocative, and extremely insightful. I am so glad that I had the opportunity to see Mark's performance. Thank you for presenting this great artist and commentator.

I totally agree with Susan. Molly's show was beautifully timed and pitched. It just shows that if you have a good story and an engaging manner you don't need any theatrical tricks. A wonderfully Daniel Kiston-esque piece of theatre that I hope gets re-mounted. More people should see this! Gary's show was also very entertaining. I enjoyed the interactive format of his show and in particular a few inspired ad-libs. A great night.

I was completely immersed in Molly's storytelling from start to finish and afterwards I felt like I had read a beautifully written, emotional and humorous novel with several stories intertwined. It was a fantastic show.

Can highly recommend this comic for kids. Saw him about 6 years ago and the kids in the audience loved him, and we adults had a darn good afternoon too so if you are free give it a go - I'm sure it will be worth it!

Hi Jo, We have wheelchair spaces at either end of row D and at the back of the stalls. Our auditorium is not that deep, so the seats at the back would have a better view and still not be too far away. I have spoken to Box Office and believe you have booked. Let me know if you need any more information.

Absolutely loved the production of "Marilyn" which I saw last night. All the perfomances were superb and balanced each other brilliantly. To see a play with only three actors where each one is perfection was a priviledge. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it all day. Costumes and set were excellent too. Thanks a million to all involved.

Hi there We are really keen to come to see the Charlie and Lola Show. We are a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 children, with one of our chidren in a wheelchair. Just wanted to check if there is a concession for her and what days are the wheelchair spaces near the front available as she needs to be quite near to see? Many thanks Jo Boyce

Great show - leaves you thinking. Topical for todays society. All three actresses were phenomenal - as were the costumes!
