Mark Steel’s In Town

Visiting Company

Following his highly acclaimed, Sony Award winning and Writers Guild Award winning Radio 4 comedy show Mark Steel’s In Town, and the publication of a book of the same title, writer and stand-up comedian Mark Steel is back on the road - part of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival.

Bringing an element of Mark Steel’s In Town to each live performance, means Mark will write material shedding light on the quirkiness and interesting aspects of every town and city he visits, allowing each show to be unique - something local audiences up and down the country will devour and enjoy. Mark is committed to performing a routine about the history of every town he’ll perform in. However, he may regret making this promise!
As well as Mark Steel’s In Town, Mark has presented the BAFTA nominated Mark Steel Lectures for BBC2, is a regular on BBC One’s Have I Got News For You and Radio 4’s Newsquiz. He’s written several, acclaimed books, including: Reasons To Be Cheerful and What’s Going On and he writes a weekly column for The Independent.

Good, but not Stellar. Saw the first night (Tuesday) and most performances were excellent, the concept script and direction likewise. Others were a bit inconsistent with the first act marred by sporadic audience noises (frustrated thespians or Pantomime audience?). Gripe is that it almost reached the heights, so I was, slightly, disappointed.

I just listened to a radio program of this on BBC, and I was pretty disappointed with the (lack of) ending. Other than that, I was quite entertained.

I was moved to tears by this performance. The script and acting was superb, and well done to Tom Hughes who 'read' Bramwell. Never get tired seeing different interpretations of Jane Eyre, but this insight to all of the Bronte family mirroring their private dreams and demons is surely worthy of more recognition. Bring it back again please.

Just back from a fantastic evening watching Bronte. I have came home enthralled and intiqued by this magnificent play.I was enthralled from beginning to end in a journey of emotion and intrique. The play was absorbing throughout. What talent from all. Written superbly and executed by outstanding actors. A great emotionally charged evening. Many Thanks... will be remembered for a long time

I just came back from the show and I'm still coming to terms with what I witnessed tonight. It has left me shocked, speechless, and still quite tense. The characters were so well performed that I could not get my eyes off the stage. The story was a bit predictable but I was surprised to find it so funny and yet intense! As it developed I began detecting elements of doubt, insanity, the deterioration of everything human between those characters, and then I decided what a great story this really was. Congratulations to both actors who, after 2 weeks of performing in this piece, still managed to keep us interested and on the edge of our seats. Great work from all angles. Worth all the praise it's getting.

Very intense, claustrophobic at times. You just have to go with it. Jonathan Dunn is superb. He star is looking very bright indeed.

Took a group of four friends to this - one of them for her 60th birthday. Wasn't sure what to expect but what an amazing performance it turned out to be. Wonderful, inovative piece of writing and the cast were brilliant in their delivery of this wonderful work. A spellbinding and thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all of our group.

Hi Lesley, the competition is open to state schools within the Glasgow City local authority. Heads of Drama or English are sent letters each year to invite applications.

So good I saw it twice - each time form a different angle. A fabulous drama with excellent acting. I still want to know what happened next...

Incredible performances last night from all three players. I got a real sense of watching a living photo frame; broken and fractured...(and only break the illusion at the end when the performers take their bows, stepping out of the frame) the only interactions being the words, the stories themselves. An amazingly intense play lifted with brilliant Irish humour. O'Rowe has created a really masterful piece of writing here.

I could not rave enough about "After the End"! Absolutely wonderful acting from both leads, an edge of your seat thriller and laughs too! A must see!

I'd like to say what a fantastic production. I saw the Laurel and Hardy play on Saturday night, and was facinated. What excellent mimicry by both of the actors, what a great take on the story, and what a fantastic production. I came with two other adults and two cildren and three of my party didnt know anything about them, or had even seen them, and they laughed as much as me and my partner who were brought up on their films. Can you please let me know if they are touring this production, and where? Thank you to Alasdair and Barrie.

I am most disappointed that the laurel and hardy show was so bad that my mother and father in law left at the interval along with quite a few others. The two men were as heavy as each other and were not in the least funny. I am gutted as this is one of there old favorites, and I purchased the tickets early so as to get a good view for them and to make matters worse it was a 75th birthday gift.
