Noel Coward’s Hay Fever

Citizens Theatre

ARCHIVE

Noël Coward’s riotous farce charting the unconventional antics of a self-dubbed ‘bohemian’ family of four, directed by Artistic Director Dominic Hill. A co-production with Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh.

At the rural retreat of the eccentric Bliss family, retired actress Judith is learning the names of all the flowers in the garden, her children are speculating about her possible return to the stage, while their father David is upstairs trying to finish his new novel.

Each has invited a guest for the weekend and as the party settles down to an after-dinner parlour game, the hapless visitors rapidly find themselves characters in the Bliss’s self-made melodrama.

Revelation, romance and outrageous behaviour set the tone of this 1920s’ comedy which explores the games people play to avoid the realities of everyday existence.

Features four songs penned by Noël Coward: I’ll See You Again, Dance, Dance, Dance Little Lady, Mad About the Boy and Someday I’ll Find You.
