A Christmas Carol

Citizens Theatre

Ebenezer Scrooge is a notoriously bitter old man who is determined not to let Christmas interfere with his miserly routine.  A feared figure throughout the streets of London he is unmoved by any pleas for charity.

But one Christmas Eve, Scrooge receives some unexpected supernatural visitors who are determined to show him the true spirit of Christmas and the error of his ways.

This bold, theatrical adaptation captures the original spirit of Charles Dickens’ beloved tale. Directed by Dominic Hill who is renowned for his, “highly imaginative, transfixing productions” (Daily Telegraph), Christmas at the Citizens offers a magical, inventive, heart-warming and spine-tingling production of a festive classic. Guaranteed to appeal to young and old alike, A Christmas Carol will melt even the coldest of hearts and leave all rejoicing with Christmas spirit!

Absolutely magical! You can't do any better than this. I've never seen a theatre come to life so much. My congratulations go, not only to the wonderful cast, but to the production team that brought A Christmas Carol alive with such vibrancy.

My children and I really enjoyed the afternoon show on 22nd December. They were animated throughout the entire performance, which gave me a chance to relax and enjoy the show too. Thank you!

I really cannot praise this production of "A Christmas Carol" highly enough. The performances, script, music, costumes, sets, puppets were all out of this world. We were in the front row and the actors also took time to speak to, and reassure, my 5 year old step daughter that the play would be fun and not too scary for her. A genuine treat from start to finish.

What a brilliant show. The acting, production, lighting, special effects, staging..........well just everything really. If you get the chance to go you will not regret it. It was first class! Well Done! We'll be back next year to the Citizens.

Wonderful production! Thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this enthralling portrayal of Dickens masterpiece! My husband, 12 year old daughter and I were spellbound throughout the entire play. The fact that the actors played all the musical accompaniments enhanced the show enormously! Fabulous actors and special effects!

What a wonderful experience! A Christmas Carol is undoubtedly my favourite story of all time and I've seen every TV and film version ever made (many of these dozens of times!) I was therefore unsure as to how they'd manage a live production, considering all the ghosts and scene changes involved but my how they did! It was atmospheric, gripping, wonderfully inventive, surprising, entrancing and above all entertaining. My niece and daughter, both under 7 were spellbound throughout and all the older members of our party were captivated by the brilliance of the production. Sincere thanks to all the cast and crew for combining their clearly considerable talents to create something that will stay with me forever.
