The Red Shoes
TAG
An enchanting and energetic retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairytale. For an invited audience.
Temptation, fame and madness. The Red Shoes tells the story of a young girl who becomes infatuated by a pair of shiny red shoes.
“The shoes would not let her do what she liked; when she wanted to dance up the room, the shoes danced down the room, then down the stairs, through the streets, out into the dark forest…”
On 29 January we are welcoming an invited audience to the Citizens Theatre to see an intimate creative lab performance of Andersen’s marvellous fable, directed by Leann O’Kasi (recent Citizens Trainee Director in Residence). Originally presented as a work-in-progress in May 2009, Dance House and TAG join forces to support this second phase of development.
O’Kasi will be working with innovative Irish choreographer Amy Kinlon of Daghdha Dance Company. After a five day exploration process, the full 40 minute play will be presented in the Citizens Theatre Circle Studio.
