Conquer Not Divide

Secondary school pupils devised a piece of theatre, before performing it in local primary schools.

A Director and Drama Worker from TAG led this project in two Glasgow Secondary Schools (Drumchapel High School and St Mungo’s Academy) with fifteen S3-S4 Drama Students from each school.

Our theatre professionals helped the students to devise short performance pieces over a period of 10 weeks looking at how sectarianism affects their lives and their communities. Each session lasted 2 hours.

Each group performed their pieces, at their schools, to an audience of P7 pupils from their local area on Wednesday 17 March 2010. Performances were followed by a short discussion looking at the themes of the dramas, led by a TAG Drama Worker.

Conquer Not Divide presented an honest look at how Glaswegian teenagers recognise sectarianism and their impressions of its impact.

As part of this project we created a short ‘making of’ film. The two performances along with the film were shown to an invited audience on Friday 19 March 2010 at the Citizens Theatre.
