Giraffes Can’t Dance

Working in partnership with Scottish Ballet, we delivered dance, drama and storytelling workshops for Glasgow primary schools - based around the hugely popular book “Giraffes Can’t Dance”.


Shakespeare Out Loud

After the success of Beyond Macbeth, our Introduction to Shakespeare workshops at the National Library of Scotland, Citizens Learning delivered a series of drama workshops bringing the Bard to primary pupils.

Inglefield Women’s Hostel - exhibition

The Citizens Theatre has had a long term relationship with Social Work Services and Glasgow Life. The Citizens Learning team, with guest artists have run regular workshops at Inglefield Women’s Homeless Unit. Over the past 3 years the residents have participated in drama, creative writing, film-making, visual art and song-writing and recording.

What Craig Did Next

We returned to five of the schools who we worked with on Don’t Start Me! to explore the impact of the project and continue an exploration of criminal behaviour. In partnership with Strathclyde Police.

Correct Change

In partnership with East Lothian Arts and the Citizens Advice Bureau, we will be working with up to 270 P5 children in East Lothian primary schools in February-March 2012. Classes will receive a series of 4 drama workshops exploring the practical and emotional consequences of managing and mis-managing money.

Second Stories

Second Stories is an idea that was pioneered in the USA. The idea to introduce this programme to Scotland was born out of exchange work that Citizens Theatre staff participated in with Serendipity Theater Collective Chicago.

Aladdin has a Waash at the Baths

The Citizens Theatre is working in partnership with Glasgow Life and the Govanhill Baths Community Trust to create a new look at the story of Aladdin.

Drama & Music at Kelbourne & Parkview

We worked with staff and children at Kelbourne Park Primary school for young people with physical impairment and their neighbouring mainstream school, Parkview Primary. Sessions took place in both schools and the children developed their Drama and Music skills which, in turn, helped to build their confidence and communication skills. Most importantly, the sessions gave them the chance to make new friends.


Beyond Macbeth

The National Library of Scotland had an exhibition Beyond Macbeth, Shakespeare in Scottish Collections running from December 2011 to April 2012. The Citizens ran a workshop programme at NLS and aimed at Primary 7s for a week from 12-16 March.


Dragonfly & Language Sandwich

Dragonfly & Language Sandwich was an early years storytelling and story acting project, which focussed on developing children’s listening and language skills and creating confident communicators. It was based on the ground-breaking work of the renowned early years practitioner, Vivian Gussin Paley.


BA Community Arts Teaching

The Citizens Learning team are teaching on the BA Community Arts course at the University of Strathclyde, leading the third year students for their Community Drama module.

A hard hitting 45 minute play based on the experiences of young people in Glasgow of discrimination and prejudice, for secondary school students.
