ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTOR LEAVES STRONG LEGACY AT GORBALS THEATRE AFTER MORE THAN A DECADE OF SERVICE

Following 13 years’ service, Anna Stapleton, Administrative Director, has decided to step down from her current position at the Citizens Theatre as the company moves into a new period of development.
She will be leaving her post on 30 June 2013.

From her early career as a Company Stage Manager to her years as Drama and Dance Director at the Scottish Arts Council and Drama Director for the Arts Council England, Anna brought a wide-ranging experience in the arts when she joined the Citizens in April 2000. During her time at the Citizens, she has worked with 3 different Artistic Directorships including Giles Havergal and more recently, Dominic Hill, who was appointed as Artistic Director in 2011 and has brought increased profile and success to the Gorbals playhouse.

A board member of the Theatrical Management Association of the UK and a fellow of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), Anna’s 35-year contribution to the performing arts industry is widely recognised beyond her position at the Citizens Theatre.

The Company will be seeking to appoint a new Administrative Director in the coming months.

On announcing her departure, Anna Stapleton said:
“As the Company enters a new phase of development, including planning and fundraising for a capital project to restore the physical fabric of the building, it was the right time for me to pass on the reins. I have very much enjoyed my time at the Citizens Theatre and it has been a privilege and pleasure to work with the superbly talented staff over this period. I will take away many happy memories as I pursue new avenues in my career.”

Adrienne Scullion, Chair of the Board said:
“Over her 13 year tenure, Anna has made a unique and essential contribution to the life of the Citizens Theatre. On behalf of the staff and the Board, I would like to thank her for her hard work, dedication and integrity during that time. The role of Administrative Director is often an unsung hero within the arts as it plays a pivotal role in keeping the organisation financially sound and robust in its future plans. The Company is extremely grateful to her.  We wish her success and enjoyment in the new challenges that await her in future professional roles.”

Dominic Hill, Artistic Director said:
“I am indebted to Anna for her support and enthusiasm for my first year of artistic programming at the theatre. The legacy that she leaves will stand the theatre in good stead looking forward to the Commonwealth Games and our 70 year anniversary in 2015.”
